Don’t let Load Shedding stop you from Shredding

Don’t let Load Shedding stop you from Shredding

Practice makes perfect, so as musicians, it goes without saying that we spend loads of time practicing, crafting our artform to perfection. It’s also a part of life that time is a valuable commodity that we can’t just “give away” freely so I can imagine I am not the only one in South Africa that wants to rip my hair out of my head when I am sitting down during my allotted time to rehearse, learn a new part or just practicing and the next thing I know I am in complete darkness thanks to our countries fragile power grid and a company that will remain nameless but rhymes with {lessCom}

Yes, yes, I know, you could always buy an acoustic guitar and hey, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that, in fact a well-rounded guitarist would almost certainly have an acoustic guitar (or two) at arm’s length but for predominantly electric guitarists, being without power doesn’t have to spell the end of rehearsal for you or the many effects that so often go missing along with your power supply. So, with load shedding becoming an unwanted “part of life” in South Africa, we here at MiTech Direct decided to offer up a few solutions to keep you playing long after the lights have gone out.

So let's open the “go anywhere, play anywhere goodie bag and see what is out there in terms of portable battery-powered amplification.

Ok, so there you have it, a comprehensive list of 10 options for the guitarist that still needs to shred while the rest of the country “sheds”. Granted, these are nowhere near their arena-filling big brothers in terms of volume but when it comes down to it, sometimes the stripped-down approach has its creative benefits. Also, I mean, do your neighbors really need to hear you learning to play “Sweet Child of mine” cranked to 11? Probably not and thanks to these options, they won't have to.

A big plus on all of these amplifiers is that they are all super portable, relatively inexpensive, and for the most part, plug and play, making for an incredibly quick and easy solution for practicing whether you have power or not. Some of these amps have a few more features than the others but you will no doubt find a solution that suits your specific needs.

The choice is yours. But whichever type of “micro amp” solution you go for, just plug in and have hours of fun playing your heart out. Bottom line, no matter what, you will be doing “loads of shredding” while the rest of us are load shedding #nopowernoproblem
